No More Nursery!

Dear Ben, we get that growing up is hard: Especially when a new baby brother is on the way with plans to take over your nursery!

But don’t fear little buddy, you’re going to get a brand new room that will even make your mom and dad jealous! To make it more exciting we came up with 2 concepts for you to pick from.  Both are super awesome, loads of fun and designed just for you!

Here’s what the room looks like now………

Option #1 – The Bold and the Blue-tiful

This room is full of fun bright colours, bold graphic patterns and tonnes of playful accessories to let the imagination run wild! Clean and modern furniture pieces allow for plenty of storage for toys, books, clothes and will transition easily into future rooms as Ben grows up.   The best part of this design  has got to be the pops of colour! We love the colour blue so much that we decided to paint the baseboards, window and door trims in a rich glossy blue. We even got fancy and painted the shutters in a blue ombre  Ooh la la!! Who wouldn’t want to wake up in this cool kids room?

Option #2 – Lil’ Hipster Room

Wait a minute…. have I stumbled into a trendy cafe in Queen West?? Oh no, its Ben’s 2nd bedroom design! This design is all about contrast, White Vs. Charcoal; Natural woods Vs. shiny metals. Not to mention all the cool light fixtures! A neat feature of this room is the headboard. We decided paint the silhouette of a classic headboard shape in gold paint on the wall. Easy to do and a great way to save!  All this room needs is an espresso machine (I imagine this is every parents nightmare….) Hip-hip- Hooray!

The British are coming! The British are coming!

Okay…more like Alissa is coming!

Lucky Alissa is about to depart on a two week adventure to England, where she will surely find no shortage of design inspiration! Between the stunning architecture, historical cobble streets and effortlessly posh people everywhere, England breathes beautiful and timeless style.

To help Alissa get (even more) excited for her trip, we’ve put together some of our favourite, swoon-worthy, British-inspired rooms. Extra points if you can guess how much we are liking the Union Jack motif this season…

Cheerio, Alissa! We hope your trip is the dog’s bollocks, and that you can sneak a snog with Prince Harry!

falling for fall

With another Thanksgiving in the books, we, over here at Services Rendered, are in full on Fall mode…even though it’s been unseasonably warm the past two days.  And while we would love to go all out in autumn decorating if left to our own devices, we realize it’s unrealistic to completely overhaul your home with new accessories and furniture just because it’s a new season. There are some types of accessories, however, that we believe are definitely worth bringing in during these colder months, that feel cozier without seeming over the top or tacky.

Below are our favourite three ways of adding some timeless warmth into your home in fall and winter:

1. Adding cozy texture…

Who doesn’t love to curl up with a cup of tea and a cozy faux fur throw, chunky knit or fluffy pillow on a chilly November day? These types of materials come in neutrals that will go with any colour palette, but will bring in texture that is sure to compliment the colder seasons more than your usual breezy accessories do.

2. Adding seasonal patterns…

There’s something about seeing those first plaid flannels and houndstooth skirts that make us giddy every September. Plaid, obvious stitching and houndstooth patterns scream fall – in the best way. And while the first image that may come to mind when you think of plaid may be bright, itchy tartan prints, which look great in some spaces, there are many sophisticated options that will work for any home. The key to bringing in these seasonal patterns is to stick with subtle colours – whether neutral or soft autumn colours.

4. Plaid Pillow  (and this and this) 5. Whipstitch Mohair Throw  6. Houndstooth Throw (we also like this) }

3. Adding natural materials…

The last way we think you can smart-cessorize for fall is by adding in some natural materials through accessories. We love natural materials at any time of year, but an abundance of wood and acorns at this time of year is so special. Many stores right now are carrying beautiful wood trays that are very on trend and are perfect for the coming holiday parties. Adding acorns or pinecones to hurricanes are another easy and inexpensive way of bringing some autumn into the decor you already have.
